A platform and resource for students
I didn’t dive into birds on my family trip to Kenya or Tanzania. Nor did it strike my fancy when my grandmother or mom pointed out water birds. It was on a school trip that I realized how their biodiversity makes me tingle. Students all across the world frequently learn to love birds in a college class or a college environment.
It’s for this reason that I started ICON (the International Collegiate Ornithological Network). ICON is a platform and resource for students to coordinate exciting events and conservation efforts. With an active culture we can increase outreach and spread the bird word! College campuses are the intersection between research, education, activity, and passion. With communication and coordination, these are serious ingredients for positive change.
ICON is just a fledgling, but with the intent to soar. Whether you are part of a college student bird club, or want to start one, ICON has the resources to help you out and bring you close to this growing community. All are welcome to join us at our Facebook page www.facebook.com/conservationicon or our website www.conservationicon.wordpress.com. Join the network today!
Future Directions: I am looking forward to making a Weebly website for ICON, and now I know how!
