Claaasssssic ross
If I had to choose one word to represent my entire college experience it would frankly have to be bird. You are smiling and nodding if you know me well; “claaasssssic Ross.” From my first Boo At The Zoo experience as a 4 year old, to my nature collection proudly displayed at the elementary school science fair, to the 78 zoos visited throughout middle school, and my password for every Internet account animalboy1993; I have always been an animal boy. Spring, senior year of high school this passion for animals grew feathers and flew.
This love for the bird word has three-layered dimensions. As with any item, the surface layer is usually of least interest. Yes I think birds look cool, and they fly cool, and watching them can be entertaining. Dig one depth deeper and you begin to breach into the really interesting stuff: the “why?” My double major and double minor equips me to answer these questions and the tools to maintain fascination. Here is where we get into research and conservation.
The final layer of the bird word is more like an intrinsic statement of how I approach life. Call it an attack plan or a “say yes” mentality, but the tackling tactics I have employed to grow in experience and knowledge for a career in birds is less about the birds and more about my desire to participate; a desire to excel. This portfolio highlights some of these out-of-class college experiences with supplementary material from the honors program and academic courses.
